Picking your Tile installer
Finding the Right Tile Installer: Don't Be Afraid to Ask Questions!
So, you're thinking about getting some tile work done. Awesome! It can totally transform your space. But I know firsthand how intimidating it can be to find the right contractor. You're not alone! It's a big investment, and you want to make sure it's done right1.
Let me tell you, don't be scared to ask a ton of questions! A qualified tile installer will be happy to walk you through the process and answer your questions23. Here are some things I've learned over the years that you should definitely ask about:
● Experience: How long have they been installing tile? Have they worked with the specific type of tile you want to use? Experience matters, but so does ongoing training. Look for someone who stays updated on industry standards.
● References: Don't be shy to ask for references and actually call them! You want to hear firsthand about other people's experiences. And ask if you can see pictures of their work. MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT STOCK PHOTOS, ask relevant questions.
● Professionalism: Do they have a website or social media where you can see their work? Look for in the comments for specific praise on specific projects. Are they members of any professional organizations, like the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA)? These can be good signs that they're committed to their craft.
● Industry Standards: Ask if they're familiar with industry standards, like the TCNA Handbook and ANSI Standards. A true professional will know their stuff. A good question to ask is, “I have heard of TCNA standards, which applies to my project?”
● Communication: Do they respond to your calls and emails promptly? Do they listen to your concerns and explain things clearly? Good communication is essential for a smooth project.
Happy Clients with Their Finished Tile: Social proof goes a long way!
Remember, finding the right tile installer is like building a team. You want someone you trust and can work with. Don't be afraid to shop around and ask lots of questions! If you have questions, I am always here to help.
